What Can I Expect with Laser?
The length of your treatment may be from a few minutes to an hour or more depending on the area being treated. You and your technician will wear protective eyewear to avoid exposure to laser light. The area being treated will be cleaned and shaved, if necessary. The laser will produce a beam of highly concentrated light which will be absorbed by the pigment of the hair. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to disable the follicles and eliminate or impede the hair’s growth. The process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, the Light Sheer Diode is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively. Light Sheer Diode’s special cooling contact hand piece cools and protects the surrounding skin while bringing the laser energy as close as possible to the hair root. The appearance of the treated area may vary from person to person, depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness/swelling around the hair follicle, which are, in fact, desired clinical results and indicate that the follicle has responded to the treatment. For the first few weeks the hairs will slowly shed. At first it will seem as if you have the same amount of hair. This will fall out and after a few weeks, the area will be smooth and hairless. Then your next cycle of hair growth will occur and you will come in for your next treatment. It is important to know that the hairs in an active growth phase (referred to as anagen) are most affected by the laser. As all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, more than one treatment will be necessary to achieve the best result. You should expect an average of 7-9 treatments spread about 6-8 weeks apart. Laser treatments are not compatible with sunlight, so exposure to the sun that would cause burning or tanning should be avoided. A good sun block is STRONGLY recommended throughout all of your laser treatments. A New You can recommend and provide some appropriate sun blocks and skincare options for you. You cannot tweeze or wax while having laser hair reduction treatments because the laser would have no target and your treatments would be ineffective.
